The institute of Adult Education (IAE) was established in 1960 as an extra mural studies section of Makerere University College, under the University of London. In 1963, the Institute was upgraded into a department and placed under the Dar es Salaam University College. Later on, it became an autonomous Institution established by Parliamentary Act Number 12 of 1975 under then Ministry of National Education, currently, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. To-date, the Institute has become a centre for Learning, Research and Training in Adult Education arena for Certificate, Diploma and Degree courses, Diploma, certificates and post-Primary education learners.Its services have been extended to the grassroots level through regional centres established in 21 regions of Mainland Tanzania.

QUALITY ASSURANCE UNIT

IAE is endeavour to provide an environment for training, research and consultancy on the area of adult education so as to stimulate access of quality life-long education programs.

IAE established the Quality Assurance Unit “QAU” in November 2018 as an internal organ with the mission tocontinuously design, develop and deliver accessible quality life-long education programs through blended learning, for sustainable social-economic development of Tanzania, Africa and the rest of the world at the institute

The performance of QAU is guided by the IAE policy

The crucial function of this organ are follows:-

a)To ensure standards and render advice on the development of curriculum for certificate, diploma and degree awards

b)To improve organisation’s efficiency and effectiveness in the service delivery

c)To review policies for academic standards and improvement it.

d)To Coordinate periodic internal self-evaluation of different academic department/campuses of institute

e)To facilitate and coordinate external evaluation of the IAE academic programmes.

f)To be a link organ between IAE and stakeholders including regulatory bodies(TCU, NACTE), stakeholders including external QA agencies and professional bodies within and outside the country that are relevant to the activities of the IAE

g)The QAU is responsible for the generally management of the Quality assurance activities at IAE
