Go ahead as soon as possible and get The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) is a government institution responsible for administering all national examinations and assessments in Tanzania. It was established by the Parliamentary Act No. 21 of 1973 following Tanzania Mainland’s withdrawal from the East African Examinations Council (EAEC) in April 1971. Zanzibar had already pulled out of EAEC in 1970. Before the pull out, Tanzania sat for foreign Secondary School Examinations conducted jointly by the East African Syndicate, which before then were conducted by the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate alone. The School Certificate Examinations were taken by African students for the first time in 1947 and that of the Higher School Certificate in 1960.

The Establishment of NECTA

The establishment of NECTA followed Tanzania Mainland’s decision to pull out of the East African Examinations Council (EAEC) in April 1971. Zanzibar had previously pulled out of the EAEC in 1970. Before the decision to withdraw, Tanzania had sat for foreign secondary school examinations conducted jointly by the East African Syndicate, which before then were conducted by the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate alone. The School Certificate and Higher School Certificate Examinations were previously conducted solely by the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. African students took the School Certificate Examinations for the first time in 1947 and the Higher School Certificate in 1960.

The establishment of NECTA was a necessary move to conduct Tanzania’s own examinations, and it has been entrusted with that responsibility ever since. It administers a range of examinations, including the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE), the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE), the Teacher Training College Examination (UALIMU), the Basic Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (BCSEE), and the Foreign Students Examination (FTNA). There are also specialized examinations such as the Music Examinations, Qualifying Test for Prospective Candidates for the Diploma in Law, and the Business Examinations.

NECTA has a number of examination centers across Tanzania. Some of these centers include the Haile Selassie Centre in Dodoma, the Islamic Seminary Centre in Mufindi, the James Gatsby Centre in Hull, the God Dominic Aquinas Centre in Dodoma, and the MTIHANI Matokeo Centre in Zanzibar. The Islamic High School and Islamic High High School are also among the institutions under the jurisdiction of NECTA. The results of these examinations are always eagerly anticipated by students, parents, and educators alike.
