Top ten 10 university in Tanzania

  1. University of Dar es Salaam: The oldest and largest public university in Tanzania, founded in 1970. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various fields, such as arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, law, education, and business. It is also a leading research institution, with several centers and institutes focusing on areas such as marine sciences, environment, development, and malaria.
  2. Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences: The only public university in Tanzania that specializes in health and biomedical sciences, established in 2007. It offers programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, public health, and allied health sciences. It also operates the Muhimbili National Hospital, the largest referral hospital in the country, and conducts research on various health issues, such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and cancer.
  3. Sokoine University of Agriculture: The first and only public university in Tanzania that focuses on agriculture and related sciences, founded in 1984. It offers programs in agricultural sciences, veterinary sciences, forestry, wildlife, fisheries, environmental sciences, and rural development. It also runs several research and outreach projects, such as the Sokoine Agricultural Research and Extension Program, the Sokoine University Graduate Entrepreneurs Cooperative, and the Sokoine University of Agriculture Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis.
  4. Ardhi University: The only public university in Tanzania that concentrates on land and built environment, established in 2007. It offers programs in architecture, urban and regional planning, land administration, surveying, geospatial sciences, construction economics, and real estate. It also engages in research and consultancy services, such as the Ardhi Institute of Human Settlement Studies, the Ardhi University GIS and Remote Sensing Centre, and the Ardhi University Innovation Hub.
  5. University of Dodoma: The newest and fastest-growing public university in Tanzania, founded in 2007. It offers programs in humanities, social sciences, education, informatics, natural sciences, health sciences, earth sciences, and business studies. It also hosts the College of Health Sciences, which is affiliated with the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, the second-largest referral hospital in the country, and the Institute of Development Studies, which conducts research on various development issues, such as poverty, governance, and gender.
  6. The State University of Zanzibar: The only public university in Zanzibar, the semi-autonomous region of Tanzania, established in 2002. It offers programs in arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, education, tourism, and marine sciences. It also operates the Institute of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages, which promotes the teaching and learning of Kiswahili, the national language of Tanzania, and other foreign languages, such as Arabic, English, French, and Chinese.
  7. Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology: A public university in Tanzania that is part of the network of the Nelson Mandela African Institutes of Science and Technology, initiated by the African Union in 2007. It offers programs in science, engineering, and technology, with a focus on addressing the challenges and opportunities of the African continent. It also collaborates with various local and international partners, such as the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology, the World Bank, and the Carnegie Mellon University.
  8. St. Augustine University of Tanzania: The first and largest private university in Tanzania, founded in 1998 by the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania. It offers programs in arts, humanities, social sciences, education, law, business, and mass communication. It also runs several community service and outreach programs, such as the St. Augustine University of Tanzania Radio, the St. Augustine University of Tanzania Press, and the St. Augustine University of Tanzania Centre for Social Research and Development.

Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences: A private university in Tanzania that is affiliated with the Bugando Medical Centre, one of the leading referral hospitals in the country, established in 2003. It offers programs in health and biomedical sciences, such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory sciences, and public health. It also conducts research and training on various health topics, such as maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and non-communicable diseases.
  10. Moshi Co-operative University: A public university in Tanzania that specializes in co-operative and business studies, founded in 2014. It offers programs in co-operative management, accounting, banking and finance, procurement and logistics management, community development, and information and communication technology. It also provides consultancy and advisory services to various co-operative and business organizations, such as the Tanzania Federation of Co-operatives, the Tanzania Co-operative Development Commission, and the Tanzania Co-operative Bank.
