ZAMBART is a research-focused non-governmental organisation that conducts research on HIV and Tuberculosis to help control and mitigate the impact of the dual epidemic. ZAMBART staff form an interdisciplinary team with a range of expertise including epidemiology, clinical science, social science, laboratory, operations research, health systems and services research, health policy analysis, health economics, health communication research compliance and counselling.

Study Summary: Yathu Yathu (“for us by us”) is a cluster-randomised trial that will evaluate the impact of community-based, peer-led SRH services on knowledge of HIV status and coverage of key SRH services among AYP. The intervention, called Yathu Yathu (For us, by us), was designed with adolescents and young people in a formative research study in 2017/18.

To support our wide range of research activities, we are looking for candidates to fill the following position: 

Community Mobiliser (01 – Chipata, 01 – Kanyama)

Position summary: Reporting to the Intervention Coordinator, the community mobilizer is in charge of planning and conducting community sensitisation activities on TB/HIV, STIs, contraceptives and other related topics.  The Community Mobiliser is also tasked with strengthening links with communities through coordination of adolescent and adult Community Advisory Boards (CABs) and promotion of community stakeholder involvement in the Yathu Yathu study.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess training needs for adolescent and adult Community Advisory Board members (CABs and ACABs); assist conduct the required training and to ensure that structures for community engagement are operational at community level
  • Organise community sensitisation activities targeting young and ensure Yathu Yathu related programs are being carried out in a culturally sensitive manner and
  • Sensitize the community to generate demand for the Yathu Yathu study.
  • Conduct meetings with community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate  community leaders and other key stakeholders to mobilize community members to participate in  the Yathu Yathu study.
  • Ensure timely submission of work plans and activity reports.
  • Assist sites to document Yathu Yathu community engagement lessons learnt.
  • Document relevant stories/incidents related to the Yathu Yathu study.
  • Identify CAB/aCAB members to attend Zambart organised meetings and other conferences as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Be at least 20 years of age and above with a Grade 12 certificate
  • Trained peer educator
  • Be able to speak, read, and write English and be conversant with local languages
  • Experience with working with adolescents
  • Experience in community sensitisation for TB/HIV, STIs and contraceptives
  • Be conversant with the local geography
  • Must be willing to walk long distances
  • Resident of community
