PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To administer and perform all library information related systems and services such as selecting, acquiring, cataloguing, classifying, circulating, and maintaining library materials; and furnishing reference, bibliographical, and readers’ advisory services.

Undertaking overall administration and management of library system and ensuring that the Institute is well supplied with appropriate books.  The Librarian Assistant will in addition be responsible for management of the record system of the Institute.

 Main Responsibilities:-

 Information Accessibility

Developing and managing convenient, accessible library and information services

Library policies and procedures

Establishing and implementing library and information policies and procedures

Inventory

Maintaining inventories, compiling statistics and generating reports as required

Stakeholder needs

Anticipating stakeholder’s needs and trends, and ensure library services are used as much as possible

 Promotion of library use

Promoting the use of the library through displays and other library tools

Customer Services

Dealing with enquiries and assisting library users in accessing ICT and other resources. Prompt response to daily queries by customers.

 Patrons’ requests

Search standard reference materials, including on-line sources and the Internet, in order to answer patrons’ reference questions.

Determine needed information

Analyze patrons’ requests to determine needed information, and assist in furnishing or locating that information

 Checking in/out library resources

Check books and other resources in and out of the library

Record keeping

Keep records of circulation and library materials

Registry Duties

Supervising registry personnel and ensuring that mail circulation internally and externally is efficient and effective.

Overseeing the security of the Library

Secure books, computers and materials belonging to the Library.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate;
  • Diploma in Library and information studies

EXPERIENCE

Three years of work experience
