Established in 1969, Vancouver Island University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Nanaimo (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), British Columbia. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Duncan, Parksville, Powellriver. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training, British Columbia, Vancouver Island University (VIU) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Vancouver Island University (VIU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study.

 

Requirements for International Students

International applicants must have completed high school (or equivalent), have a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 80 with no score below 19, or 550 (Pbt), (213 CBT) or a minimum IELTS of 6.0 (with no band below 5.5) or have successfully completed Vancouver Island University’s English Language certificate program and course prerequisites. Applicants who do not meet the above may still be considered for admission and will be required to upgrade.

If applying for an M.B.A./M.Sc.I.B. business or non-business undergraduate degree, students must have a B average in their last two years of an undergraduate degree, a minimum TOEFL iBT 88 with no sections under 20, or IELTS 6.5 with no band under 6.0, CAEL 70, or have successfully completed Vancouver Island University’s English Language certificate program. GMAT andwork experience are not required.

Procedure for International Students

International applicants must complete an international application for admission, which is available online. Students must include in their applications a $150 non-refundable application processing fee, and enclose a certified copy of all educational documents in their original language and translated into English.
